As a Google Partner we had the opportunity to run an event last week, which served as a great platform for networking for the business leaders invited and also a chance to hear from Google HQ Australia.
Google HQ came to us via livestream and shared some insights about Adwords, and current online trends. Here’s the top insights we took away from the day, which really served as a reminder of just how powerful the internet has become.
“40% of Australians said they would choose to view the location of a competitor if they couldn’t see a business on the map.”
Basically, this tells us that if you’re not 100% visible, searchable, and up-to-date online, you’re losing business. It’s just too easy to click on something that does appear. Let people’s fingers find you, so their feet can too.
“70% of internet users look for local goods and services online.”
We already know that this kind of statistic exists, but it’s a more-than-gentle, healthy reminder that those numbers just keep growing. 70% of the human body is made up of water, and over 70% of the earth’s surface is water. 70% is a significant amount. Don’t drown amongst your competitors, and make sure your goods and services are able to be found and seen.
“Search is the #1 method of finding a business’ phone number. #2 is a business’ own website.”
This fact was the biggest indicator that you need every facet of your online marketing and advertising ticked off. It is not enough to just have a website. You need your website, and vital company information to be showing in search results. With the ability to add extensions on your Adwords to include information such as phone numbers, you get closer to your customer, faster.
“More people in the world own a mobile phone than a toothbrush.”
This fact is a tad grim and pulls at our compassion for poverty, but that’s exactly what makes it so powerful. The sheer volume at which mobile phones have reached even the remotest corners, populations, and villages in the world, is almost unbelievable. Yet when there are facts, they’re very difficult to deny. The ‘move to mobile’ was a major talking point of the Google Partners event: stressing mobile-friendly websites, the rapidly increasing trend of increased mobile usage over desktop (which is, moreover, predicted only to increase), and multiple results showing increase in conversions and revenue due to businesses being mobile friendly.
It won’t be breaking news to you how important it is to be internet savvy these days, but some of these facts and figures may just have exceeded your expectations. A few of them certainly exceeded the expectations of business leaders who joined us on the day. A few have approached us, following the event, to get them up to speed with the mobile-friendliness of their website, or to help them out with creating Google Adwords campaigns. We are glad this event could be of value to the attendees and we hope this summary has provided you insights also.
