Happy hour: the best time to send out your email

When is the right time to show up?

If only it was as simple as putting together an eye-opening offer, an engaging subject line and sending your message out. But, unfortunately, it's not.

In the mission to get your customers to open an email, the day and time that you send an email is incredibly important. So what day is the best day to send emails? And what time of day?

While some businesses swear by their methods, you should still test to find out which day is the best day to send out an email for your business. Given that, there are a few trends that have popped up to which you should also pay attention:

Blue Monday

"I thought I was mistaken, I thought I heard your words". – New Order

Mondays are considered the worst day to send out emails. When you come into work on a Monday, you instantly start deleting anything that seems like junk or unimportant so that your inbox isn't as overwhelming to you. Unless your database customers have continually shown a different response, avoid Monday sends!

Working for the Weekend

"Everyone’s trying to get it right". – Loverboy

As a general rule of thumb, internet activity reduces on weekends. This may be because people spend more time with their families and friends. Or maybe they are just burnt out from looking at a computer all day long during the week. Avoid the weekend. Unless of course you are open and working for the weekend.

Business Time

"You know how I know? Because it’s Wednesday". – Flight of the Conchords

Most studies support that sending emails on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday will get you the best open rate results. So, from a starting off point, you want to send your email campaign on a midweek day in the morning.

But what time, you say?

According to Mailchimp, the time between breakfast and lunch is the best opportunity to get people to click through.

However, the No. 1 rule of email marketing is: test. Then test again. Unless you trial and error, you might not know that your customers actually respond amazingly well to Monday or weekend emails. The only way to know for sure is to hold various email trials to test various send times and select the best day to send emails out. Even within your database, different segments may respond in different ways.
