You do you

A 9 year old reporter was first on the scene of a suspected murder case in her local neighbourhood. Hilde Kate Lysiak, followed hot on the heels of an officer after she caught wind that he had a serious case. Police had apparently asked media to refrain from reporting, but it seems she missed this in her zeal to cover the story.

Lysiak received some backlash from many of her “Orange Street News” blog followers, but she is unwilling to back down on her choice to cover the story. Many claim that she needed to warrant more respect for those in the community, though she is convinced of her role as a reporter.

She states, “If you want me to stop covering news, then you get off your computer and do something about the news.”

The Orange Street News blog has 525,820 hits, and the Youtube channel has 2,578 subscribers - not bad for a 9 year old!

Nonetheless, this is the kind of tenacity that it takes if you want to stand out; you have to be committed to “doing you”. Despite the consequences, despite the backlash. And if you continue to do you, first, without trying to impress the others, that’s when you’ll make a name for yourself.
